Tech At Tamaki: Science Class: Topic 6: Sugar.

Task Description:
This is what I did during science class.  My teacher first showed the whole class a gram with words.  Those words were related to "sugar".  I was assigned to write down any of those words that I found familiar.  Like the word "diabetes".  I wrote down at least 4 to 5 words.  One of them were Toffee, lactose, and sweeteners.
  • Sweeteners- Sweeteners is a type of liquid.  This can be used in cakes and cup cakes.
  • Toffee- Toffee is a type of candy.  It's hard sugar candy.
  • Lactose-Lactose is a type of sugar.

Later on, my teacher explained 3 different types of sugar.
  • Sucrose
  • Lactose
  • Fructose

Sucrose is part of the normal sugars like white sugar, brown sugar, and Icing sugar.
Lactose it's part of the milk powder, milk sugar, and flavoured sugar.
Fructose is the most healthiest sugar.  Fructose is part of the fruit sugar.

Afterwards, my teacher gave the whole class three papers each.  On that paper were pictures of food products.  What I had to do was cut out the photos.  When I finished, I had to tell my teacher.  My teacher helped me glue it in my book.  What I had to do next was write a list.  I had to write down the seven products on that paper and I had to look at how much sugar that product had.  As you can see in the photos above, I made a small flip book.

When everybody finished we got to do a fun experiment!.  We had to pour in 50 grams of coke into a cup.  We then got a stand to put over the Bunsen burner.  A few minutes later, the coke was starting to boil.  We still waited until the coke was gone.  But the coke didn't disappear.  The coke was stuck to the bottom.  My teacher scraped out the bottom to get the coke out.  The coke turned into beautiful crystals!.

Cambodian Myth Of Lightning, Thunder and Rain

                                                                     Task Description:
This task is based on a myth/legend called myth of lightning, thunder, and rain.  In this activity I had to arrange the items to the right god.  In the story, Moni Mekhala, Vorachhun, and Ream Eyso were assigned to fill up a glass bottle with morning dew.  Vorachhun and Ream Eyso went out every morning to collect the dew from trees.  Moni Mekhala hung a scarf outside.  Once the scarf was all wet from the morning dew, she would squeeze it into the glass bottle.  Moni Mekhala was the winner!.  Vorachhun got a diamond dagger.  Ream Eyso got a diamond axe, and Moni Mekhala got a crystal ball.  Their teacher turned their dew into GIFTS!.  Ream Eyso was jealous of Moni Mekhala so he planned to take her crystal ball.  He failed.  Moni Mekhala used her crystal ball powers against Ream Eyso.  The crystal ball shot up in the air and created lightning which struck Ream Eyso

Dear Future Me

Dear Future Me,

It’s 15 April 2020.  We are in lockdown at the moment.  New Zealand’s first case was confirmed on 28 of Feb.  That was the scariest thing.

New Zealand had 1,084 people infected, 770 recovered, and 9 people who had sadly passed away.

I feel really good to be at home.  I get to sleep in longer, I can spend quality time with Mum and Dad, and, I can eat a lot :).

New Zealand is doing a pretty good job on lockdown.  Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is doing a great job at protecting New Zealand.  She might even extend the lockdown.

I’m super lucky none of my family members are infected.  Everyone is doing just fine!

It’s pretty hard getting food supplies and toiletries.  The cues at the supermarkets are very long.  You would have to wait a long period of time.  Mum always gets groceries.  She leaves the house once, or twice a week.

Online school is pretty hard.  At school you could just ask your teacher for help.  But online, you have to email.  I really do miss hanging out with my friends.  All we do is just video chat.

Everyday, I facetime my cousin and play with him on roblox!.  That’s the only thing that makes my day!.  As you know, Siu lives far away!.  The only way I can contact him is by facetime!.

I really miss my baby cousins.  Leylah and Lucas.  I don’t get to see them that much.  Lucas is getting real big, and I’m not there to see him grow up.  I really hope this lockdown ends sooner.  When this lockdown ends I’m gonna go see my family!.  I can’t wait to see my cousins!.  I have other cousins too.  Ngapera, Mira, and Kafu.  All of them are Siu’s siblings.  I really miss them but as you know, they live far away.

At the moment, I’m not worried about anything!.  I’m just happy that my whole family is safe!.

I’ve learned to be more helpful towards my parents, and to work hard to whatever I want to achieve.  I see how hard my parents work to keep a roof over me and my brother's head.  I see how hard they work to give us food.  Nearly every day, Mum and Dad work hard to make sure we are not sick.  They keep us safe.  I have very hard working parents and I’ve learned to work hard in school.  Mum and Dad want us to work hard in school in order to get into the college we want.

I’m super thankful that none of us have the disease, and I’m super thankful for Mum and Dad taking care of us.

I love to talk to my cousin.  There is never a day we miss calling each other.  Early in the morning my cousin calls to play roblox.  He’s always busy but he makes sure he calls me.  That helps me A LOT.  Since it’s so boring at home, I get to talk to him every single day. :).

At the moment, I feel really bored and tired of staying home.  I hope this lockdown ends soon.

Task Description:  This is my writing to my future self.  I wrote a letter about what is happening in New Zealand at the moment.  I had to explain how I feel during quarantine.  This is a good experience for us who are not sick.  We now know how it feels for the people who have covid-19.  It must be really frustrating and boring for them to stay in a hospital.  Prayers go out to all the people infected.

Don't Let Go!: Part 1

Don’t Let Go!
resource image
Write a story using the picture above as inspiration. Is this the beginning of the story or the end? Where is the carriage going and why? Who is the girl and how did she get there? What’s the deal with the duck and lizard? Where do those stairs go behind them?

Be creative….is it real life or fantasy? Sad or funny? Scary or possibly true?

EXPOSITION:
Who: Olivia, Stacy, Mya, Gustav (Duck), David (funny looking lizard) Nancy (the forest witch) Louise (Mum), Bob (Dad).
Where: Fantasy forest, Olivia’s house, the wishing well.
When: 2020 25 January.
Hook: Would Oliva be able to escape the evil Witch? Will Olivia be cursed forever?  How can Olivia stop the mean Witch’s spell?

BEGIN WRITING HERE:

Once upon a time there lived a lovely, beautiful girl named Olivia.  She had wavy black hair and light blue eyes.  Olivia lived near a forest.  No one goes in the forest, but not until now.  Olivia was told not to go in the forest.  Olivia was very curious about what lives beyond those trees.

The next day, Olivia told her parents that she was going out with some friends,  Lousie and Bob said no.  They had to go to a family reunion.  That happens once a month.

“Really Mum, I can’t go out with my friends?”

“I’m sorry darling, our family reunion is very important, we must attend each one”

“You can go with your friends tomorrow”

“Thanks Dad, I mean, there is free food right?”

“Haha, yes there is” Said Mum

That night, Olivia texted Stacy and Mya to come over tomorrow for an “Adventure”.  Stacy and Mya are Olivia’s Best Friends.  Olivia is the oldest of the group, and Mya is the youngest.  Stacey has short brown hair, with green eyes, and Mya has long black hair, with light brown eyes.

The next morning, Mya and Stacy came over to Olivia’s house.  Olivia had big backpack. Olivia had packed a lot of food and water.  Since they were gonna be out for the day, they needed to be prepared for their adventure!.

“Where are we going?” Mya said

“We’re just going to the forest”

Stacey screamed,  “What do you mean the forest! That’s the forbidden forest!!”

“It’s ok. We’ll be fine.”

A few minutes later, the three girls have finally made it to their destination.  Olivia was the first to go in.  Stacey followed Mya.

“This is so beautiful I don’t know why we’re not allowed in here.”

“I think i'm gonna go”.  Stacey ran out of the forest.

“Why did she leave?” asked Mya.

Olivia yelled, “Stacey where are you going! We just got here”.

No reply.

“Come on Mya We’ll be fine”.

“Stacey is such a scaredy cat, she doesn't usually act  like this.  I thought she was the “fearless” one in the group”.

“You gotta go easy on her Olivia, maybe she’s not that interested.”

“Your righ……….”

Something interrupted Olivia.  It sounded like a small, high pitched voice.

“Mya did you hear that?”

“Yea…..”

“Let’s turn back…..”

ROARRR!  Stacey came running out of the bush!.

“You scared the crap out of me! I thought you went back home!”

“Olivia, you really think I was that scared of the forest? Hahaha”

“I'm getting tired, should we head back it’s getting dark…..”
“Yea we should”.

“What do you mean getting dark? It’s just 12:00 AM?  Mya, Olivia, do you really want to head back home?”.

“Not really? Mya? How about you?”

“Let’s just stay for a while.”

The longer the girls went, the deeper they got in the forest.  *Crunch*.

Olivia was shocked “What the heck is that?!”

“Eww yuck!”

“Stacey do something”

“Me? What do you want me to do?!”

“Grab a tissue from out of my bag!!”

Stacey takes the tissues and gives it to Olivia.

“What is that? It looks like slimey poop”

“Stacey do you think your father can take samples of this weird thing?”

“Sure, I’ll give it to him, give me the tissue I’ll put it into this tiny container.”

“I wonder what kind of creature lives in these forest”

“Hmmm Let’s find out!”

TO BE CONTINUED!

Narrative: Young Detective

The Young Detective

pobble365

It had been three days since it had gone missing. One minute he had held it in his hand, the next it had vanished. How could it just have disappeared? It had been right in front of his eyes!
He had been warned about what would happen if he lost it. His mission had been to guard the key with his life, ever since they visited him last summer.
Adam had always had a detective’s instinct. They had told him as much. He had been chosen because he had certain skills, and he would need them more than ever now.
Only one clue had seemingly been left, which was sat on the living room table.
Holding the magnifying glass up to his eye, Adam began to investigate…

Adam was full of fear.  He didn’t know what would happen to him if he didn’t find the key sooner.  He started to look in the lounge.  He looked under the sofa, under the coffee table, and  inside the chimney.  Wait, why would it be inside a chimney?.
He gave up.  Adam bursted out with tears.  He was so scared.  At this point he didn’t know what to do.  The last place Adam had been to was the Library.  Adam quickly put his shoes on and he ran to the library.  The Library closes at 12:00.  It’s 11:30 at the moment.

Adam was surprised.  He saw his Dad sitting on the chair.  Adam stopped for a moment. But Adam had  no time to chat.  Adam quickly ran to the corner.  That was the last place Adam was seated.  He looked everywhere.  Adam just sat down on the chair. Sad and angry.
“How could I lose that key?.  It was right in front of me,  IT WAS IN FRONT OF MY EYES!”
Adam sat there.  For at least two minutes.  But something was off.  He could feel someone staring at him.  The hairs from the back of his neck were tinkling.  He stood up. To his surprise, he saw his Dad.  Adam Screamed!.
“Dad what are you doing?!.”
His Dad laughed.
“Son, I know why you’re here.”
Adam didn’t have a good connection with his Dad.  They would always have bad moments with each other.

“You..You know why I’m here?”
“Of course I do.  I’m your Dad.  I have my own ways to keep my eyes on you.”
“Then why am I here?.  What am I here for then?”.
He giggles.
“You’re looking for the key. Hahahaha. I wonder... where.. it.. is!”
“Dad give it to me!!”
Says Adam.
“Try and FIND ME!”
Adam’s Dad quickly runs away!.
Adam couldn’t keep up.  His Dad disappeared.  He was nowhere to be seen.
“I gotta  get that key! Why does he always have to act childish!!”
Adam saw his Dad run into the bathroom.  He rapidly ran after him.  Adam was shocked.  His Dad disappeared.  AGAIN!

“Wha….What?.  Does my Dad have superpowers?”
